Whilst offenders are inside prison they have numerous avenues of support available to them, with chaplaincy being one of them. Chaplains of all faiths provide pastoral and spiritual support in various forms to prisoners in their care. Unfortunately, when ex-offenders leave prison, this support isn't as readily available as it was inside the prison. The MCA endeavour to sign-post prisoners towards existing community chaplaincies in areas where they are already available, with the help of the Community Chaplaincy Association (CCA), whom they are an associate member of. In many areas there are no community chaplaincies, so the MCA through their wide network of chaplains have been able to link up ex-offenders with mentors who have offered support upon release. For information regarding above contact cc@mca-hmps.co.uk We also (1) Organise a network of pastoral support for Imams & staff (2) Prepare, produce and recommend teaching materials (3) Provide mentoring and job shadowing for Muslim Chaplains (4) Engage with communities for resettlement and help to reduce the risk of re-offending (5) Raise funds in order to pursue the activities of MCA
The MCA have a dedicated team of volunteers who are able to provide awareness sessions about Muslim in Prison to the local community upon request. We seek to educate and make aware the community on how they all can help resettle the Muslim men and women back in to the community. How as a community member, they can help to reduce crime and help to make society better. The Muslim population in prisons is unfortunately increasing dramatically. Over 15% of the overall prison population are registered as Muslim and this figure is increasing. The MCA is committed to help break down barriers in the community and bring about a joint effort to reduce reoffending. At the same time we aim to try and deter people from committing crime which may lead then in to prison. If you are interested in holding a session in your community, please contact us on info@mca-hmps.co.uk

MCA have a wealth of knowledge, experience and support options for people wanting to become a Muslim Chaplain. We are able to guide them and support them in their preparation for an interview. We also provide guidance on development opportunities to our members who want to be up skilled and become more productive in their work within the prison population. This may open up opportunities for progression and promotion. The MCA make it a point to include training and development as an agenda items when holding MCA national meetings.
MCA held a strategic planning meeting at the end of 2018. 50 chaplains took part and some 28 unique suggestions were made from a wide range of themes. Following this exercise the executive committee chose the following Key Priorities that they will work towards over the next 3 years in office insha Allah (God willing) Resettlement work in the Community Crime in the Muslim community is at a far higher proportion than it should be and Muslims are disproportionately represented in Prisons. This is something that most of the wider community is unaware of hence, there is very little being done to tackle this.’ MCA are planning to create an awareness within communities and encourage local and national organisations to work towards reducing this figure. Pastoral Care & Development of Muslim Chaplains Providing pastoral support for our colleagues is a key aim of the organisation we also endeavour to support and sign post fellow colleagues in progressing their skills and converting ambitions into realities. Increased provision for Muslim Women in Custody Female prisons have a large number of women suffering emotional issues. Our members believe that through our ‘Partnership Scheme’ this is an area where we, the community need to stand hand in hand in their support. It is high time we made a difference by helping the most vulnerable. National Partnerships Scheme Linkup with National organisations and charities to support the Aims of MCA
