What we do
Welcome to the MCA website. This site will give you a brief scope of what we do and what services we provide. With our professional links in the Prison Service as Muslim Chaplains and resources in the Muslim community as Imams of Mosques, preachers, lecturers, etc. We are committed to building links in both, prison and outside communities.
Muslims in Prisons
Muslim Chaplains have been leading worship and providing pastoral care in prisons on a voluntary/sessional basis since the seventies. The prison population in the UK has increased significantly over the last decade. This increase has affected all communities including the Muslim community.
I am delighted to support the Muslim Chaplains' Association which is a very important organisation and does great work in providing care, support and rehabiliation for offenders and ex-offenders in Her Majesty's Prison
I am delighted to have become a Patron of MCA. Muslim Chaplains help prisoners practice their religion, fully understand it and commit to its tenets. In individual prisons it is often difficult and stressful as Muslim Chaplains to deal with prisoners who have either a limited or distorted views of their faith. The MCA has a key role to play in supporting this work both by providing the mutual support that Muslim Chaplains need and providing a shared voice in the debate about the development of the Prison Service. It is for these reasons that whilst being Director General of NOMS, I encouraged MCA and after retiring as DG want to continue to give my support as their Patron
I think the MCA has a positive role to play in supporting Muslim Chaplains. I endorse in particular its work to engage with the community to raise awareness and to encourage involvement with the resettlement of offenders
